Thanks Bob, but for me, I think I will have to see what happens next year.
I told my son about Ship Creek and he decided to go up last week with his wife and two young kids. Took a day to visit family, took a day for a day-cruise, spent a day on Ship Creek and a day on the ocean for Kings and small halibut.
He told me Ship Creek was boring, loaded with Pinks, 18" to 24", and the challenge was getting a lure or bait through a hole without a fish on it. He said he may have made it through them without a fish twice. On the other hand, even though it was early, Silvers were coming up on the high tides and he had no issues with catching some good ones. Like me, he prefers the Silvers.
Just trolled a few miles outside of Anchorage for Kings, and of course the biggest have already spawned and died this year. Still, he and his 10 year old son caught limits of Kings. Later they caught several up to 30 pounds Halibut to complete the day.
What I have learned is that I have an open invitation from his wife's family to come up, that fishing is good even around Anchorage, and that as long as you plan the season a little, you can have a great time up their.
I think my bucket list has a hole in the bottom!
