Louisiana Tarpon fishing?

Postby aka anglinarcher » Wed Jun 28, 2017 2:37 pm

Did you ever get into those fish in October? I have tried to find out something about fishing for the Tarpon I heard you talk about on one of your shows.

You said on the show that you learned about them when you had "Tarpon Fever" but at that time had never been able to go for them. Conditions that day drove you inland to fish for some oversized reds.

It is always fun to learn of untouched and under fished species.

If you have a guide that specializes in them, send me an email. LOL

Wife wants me out of the house and I can't find anything but what I learned from your time in Louisiana.

Hope you are getting on the water as often as you want. Thanks again.

My friends Eric and Moe Newman have a fishing operation in Venice and introduced me to an old fella named Coon who invented a lure called the "Coon Pop" and fishes tarpon down there a great deal. Eric and Moe's outfit is called Journey South Outfitters.
They for sure can put you in touch with Coon.

Wish I could remember Coon's last name. He is really worth meeting. But, like I said, eric and moe can hook you up with them. His lure is the design that's been banned from Boca Grande. It's a break away style jig head with a big circle hook and plastic trailer.

In Venice, LA as I write this. You are correct with the tarpon guide. Asked my redfish guide and says he is the man for big tarpon. BTW the bull red bite is on! Largest bull so far is 36 lbs with 3 days of fishing. Guide says the Whopper Plopper has been great this summer 8)

If you are sight fishing for them, don't forget Mr. Wiggley. It killed them when I lived down there.

Thanks for the Report, sometimes I miss it down there.

Too many black tip shark around. Did extremely well with popping corks rigged with Berkley 5.5 in and 4 in Havoc Sick Fish. 8) Fishing for big bull reds in Venice is a must for all diehard anglers!
Good fishing doradokiller.

May thru October is good. Not much else for lodges right there. its a big beautiful lodge. good jungle fishing for smaller species, most of the tarpon will be on the outside.
