Bugeye Smallmouth Bass

Postby Caja » Mon Apr 04, 2016 10:02 pm

What causes largemouth or smallmouth bass to have bugeyes/bigeyes? I have not seen to many smallmouth bass with this condition. Here is one from 4/3/2016 https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzTI6 ... XJLbDNrNlU

very interesting question. In my experience the only thing I've seen that causes this in any species of fish is a rapid pressure change.
What depth did your fish come from?
On the other hand I've seen it happen to many anglers when they see the price tag on a new boat!

Fishing five foot flat with break into 20-25 foot shallow crankbait came off flat then bugeye stroked it. I guess she came up 20 feet to feed. I Like going to boat shows LOL. won boat and tee shirt this year https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzTI6Z ... cslist_api

yeah all the others came from same spot, there is a set ledge rock there tops out 1-3 feet than then undercuts with hole 17.5 deep apart 15 from set of rock shoal ledges and there is tree in hole too, good spot. biogists say takes 4-5years life for smallmouth get to 20" size. They grow fast and do not live as long, this smallmouth stocked 25years 4ago, all of recent one are from Arizona hattery. dnr quit stock two years ago and government plans to dam up wild and scenic sections of river for nuke plant next couple of years. Section of thatriver above that dam has 3-5 mile greenway, but engery company dumped coal ashes in system this summer and killed all the fish and on top of that is where the city get all drinking water from. This has been going on for years and it crying shame. Dirty South what i call it, go to walmart and look at all the disable people buying food with stamps. sorry for the extra info. Fishing still good as of now. Just concerned about future of fish and people. i think the rapid growth and pressure changes causing bugeyes. i caught largemouth that waa over 10 pounds last year her eyes were huge. If your ever in the Carolinas you could catch the most Southern strain of river Muskie. The cool shot from top of dam has Muskie and aka locals all fish for bass or cat fish and nobody even guides for them. Got one 48"-50" next to kayak on video. Shoal Bass, big largemouth and smallmouth are possibities too. Love the show and lure making videos, products, Good Fishing Caja
