Figure 8

Postby puckfisher » Sun Jun 14, 2015 10:15 am

Musky fishermen finish their casts with one more figure 8s. Do Pike fishermen do the same? How effective is this on pike? Any difference in the motion between the two species? No muskies in lake I will be fishing.

Hey Puck, I find that a figure 8 works on all species, if they are not too spooky for the rod in the water. A lot of times that means how heavy they are pressured.

I have caught Brown Trout, Red Fish, Pike, Even the occasional LMB doing it, but Muskie always seem to be less afraid and it does work better on them.
I think my bucket list has a hole in the bottom!

I never figure 8 for any fish other than muskies. I have always felt most fish shy away from a boat or any movement above them. I have had northerns strike right at the boat and that was the source of my question. I just never have heard about this maneuver for any other fish. I'll give it a try and report after trip.
