whopper plopper for tuna

Postby Swamprat » Mon Apr 13, 2015 1:18 pm

Hey Larry, located in south Louisiana and want to try one of the whopper ploppers for YF tuna in the 100 lbs class, have you tried this? Are they thru wired ? Since they are set up for big natsy's I imagine they are but curious. Would a hook change be in order? 20-30 lbs of drag are pretty common, thanks in advance like the show very much.

With that much drag you might straighten the stock hooks, depending on how the fish is hooked, but otherwise you won't pull it apart. I've tossed it at them but it's hard to get it back to the boat before a blackfin or shark eats it!

That would depend entirely on what lures I'm tossing! I use two piece stagger ferrule seven and a half foot mudhole blanks when I am traveling.
At home I use a number of different sticks ranging from seven and a half up to nine feet and from med to xxxheavy power.
It's a very versatile reel that handles half ounce lures up to however heavy you want to toss.
