Fall Flatheads in the middle of a cold front?

Postby catfishpat10 » Thu Sep 13, 2007 11:02 am

Hey Larry,

I plan on heading down to my boat in Hastings tomorrow night to fish for Flatheads on the sippi. It looks like the low temp will be around 35. I have caught my largest fish this time of year but I don't think I've ever been out when it's quite that cold.

My question is, do you think that this chilly weather will be a big turn on for the cats or will it keep them tight to cover in the depths?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi Pat,
Lord only knows. The cold snap has been so drastic, and with this low water the effects are even more dramatic. I guess there's only one way to find out!
Good luck! Let me know how you do.

I will let you know how it goes if my fingers aren't too frost bitten to type!

On a somewhat promising note-

My buddy was out on the croix for a little over an hour a few nights ago when it got down into the 30's. He had 4 follows and caught a very fat 42 inch Muskie. Well, it was fat for a Muskie anyway....

Well Larry,

It beat workin' but those cats just weren't hungry. My bait acted like there were fish close by but I had no takers. Even the Beaver that lives in the spot I fish was holed up for the night. Lesson learned...

It was kind of nice having the river all to myself for a change though!

I plan on hitting it hard this coming Sunday-Thursday over the full moon so I will keep you posted as to how I do. Hopefully I can get at least a 50 or 60.
