calcutta for casting?

Postby bmellick » Tue Jul 26, 2011 8:36 am

just bought 400bsv for casting big plugs to stripers but am new to casting with conventional reels bigger than a small freshwater baitcaster - is curado better for this with 30-50 braid, 2-4oz plugs? also how long do you like a mon/flouro leader if you use one with braid?

You should have no problem using the 400B to cast the bigger lures. It will handle 30-50 pound braided line.

Leader length can range from 8 inches to six feet or more depending on whether you use a knot that can be wound up and cast out the guides.
Either reel will work fine. Obviously, the curado has a little less line capacity.

Love my 400 with yellow 40-60lb powerpro on a 7' Fenwick Saltstick. That is my go to for almost everything, you should have no problem slinging a plug. I can throw an eel 40yd with that thing
