Swimbaits

Postby kj197728 » Thu Nov 16, 2006 11:21 pm

Do you do any fishing with any of the new swimbaits? I have read they can catch big fish but only with the right conditions. Also that they are not the best choice of lures because there are better options. Do you have any opinions on these "hot" newer lures? Thanks as always.

Hi KJ,
Actually swimbaits aren't all that new. In my experience they're great on big fish, and especially those that have seen lots of lures or that are in extremely clear water.
I've caught many different species on them, and have even made some molds of my own to create just what I need.
The variations in rigging them are a big part of their secret and is still being explored.
best,
L

If I'm making repeated casts out far a swimbait is my #1 lure. LM Bass, Perch, Rockfish, Lingcod, Salmon (both ocean and river) and although I have snagged many a batrays wing on accident, one time catching salmon in the ocean I brought up a big ray that was hooked deep in the mouth on a big swimbait.
Let's fish!
