cast or inserted lip?

Postby jtb » Sat Aug 10, 2019 8:33 am

im designing/carving a couple different baits right now and intend on casting them instead of carving...my question is would an intregal cast lip be as strong as an inserted and epoxied lip?..one is a jerkbait (hopefully suspending) for saltwater and the other will be designed to deflect off bottom in freshwater...thanks

Lexan will be stronger than any of the cast urethanes. Be sure to allow enough of the lip to remain embedded in the body of the lure and you should be fine! I perforate the part of the lip that will be inside the body. On the jerk bait, depending on how large and how thick the lip is, you may be just fine using RC3 or alumilite white.

thank you very much..my plan was to buttress the bottom of jerbait lip for strength. hoping to paint it to add to the details of the finished bait...you confirmed my thoughts on the second bait..have a good day
