Questions about Making Your Own Lures

Flex 80

Postby Caja » Thu Jan 24, 2019 8:33 pm

While casting blades and plopper tails with flex 80, part A and part B (7gram to 20grams total) mixing 30 seconds add dye final mixing 60-90 seconds, the lure part does not seem to cure and wants to tare apart. Can I use the Alumidust heat set trick on Flex 80? I am making some magnum wire through construction bladed jigs and only need just basic colors at this point. Just trying to solve the issues of missing strikes with bladed jigs cause metal blade interferes with hook sets. Clear coat of acrylic should stiffen the flex 80 also?

Caja, did you really mix part A and part B well before you mixed them together? I have noticed that Flex settles like plastisol and will not harden correctly if you don't.
I think my bucket list has a hole in the bottom!

I haven’t worked with the flex 80 yet but have been playing with the flex series. What is your mold material? The urethane rubbers will cure out in platinum silicone but will not fully cure in with tin silicones ( I have gotten it to workbut it was an extremely shallow open pour cast and I applied a bit of heat for the cure but not fully cured). I am a total rookie in this game so take this with a grain of salt.

I will try mixing part A and part B containers prior to final mixing, thanks for the tip. If the flex 80 becomes just a little stiffer blades are going to work good.

If you heat your mold, mix your material well, and allow sufficient time to set the flex materials are pretty friendly and surprisingly durable.
Can also mix in a few microballoons to improve consistency.
It takes color pretty well from a pre-dusted mold, but i've not found any way to "clear coat" it per se.
keep on gooping!

Mr Largemouth liked the flex 80 and super plastic blades, smalls and spot fell for vermilion craw crankbaits. Fun bass slam on lures made with Alumilte products. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... wvIw5BqpMU

You probably like the serendipity of wire thru construction with wire keeper with option to change out blades. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1DSnYj ... wB-xvg40WD
