Jerk Bait Lip Color

Postby Bigjgordon » Wed May 02, 2018 8:28 pm

Hi Larry,

I've made a two part mold of a favourite jerk bait using HS3. Casting with Alumilite White, the diving lip seems to be as strong as the store bought version. Do you think the opacity of the lip matters? Should it be Lexan or Alumilite Clear instead? If not, should I accent it with a different color? Or am I overthinking things? I hate being outwitted by a fish. Don't ask me how I know that!....

Thanks,

John

That's a good question and IMO the only real answer has to come for the fish. As you may recall several years ago Rapala introduced colored lips. They seemed to work just fine, not any better or worse than clear ones. The alumilite white is not as strong as lexan, but unless the lip is really thin or large it holds up pretty well. The Rc3 although bone color is a bit stronger.
Good luck with your project! Let us know how it works out!
