Questions about Making Your Own Lures

Swimbait Blank

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this. I want to make a soft plastic bait and I have an original. I know I can make a copy using Sculpey and then make a mold with HS2. My question is, has anyone ever taken a soft plastic original and somehow made it hard to make a master? I'm thinking maybe spray it with lacquer or something.

I thought about making a synthetic clay mold but it's pretty hard to press the soft plastic into the hard clay.

Looking for some insights here....I'm just not that good with the Sculpey.

It depends somewhat on the shape whether it's best to hang it, lay it on it's back or bottom, but it's no problem to use the original soft plastic lure as your master. You just have to make sure it's straight and not misshapen in the mold. If necessary you can even put wire or wires through it to keep it straight.
good luck,
