Hi, tried to do a little research but didn't find what I was looking for.

What are colorants for soft plastics made from? They look almost like an oil based paint... will oil based paint mixed with soft plastic work as a colorant?

Oil base materials typically work. Anything containing any amount of water will give you unneeded issues. Best thing to do is test a small amount of in Alumisol after you've heated it and its ready to pour ... mix in a small amount of the oil base material. If it begins to boil, it means it typically has some water in it or other material that is not compatible. Then make sure the colorant is not going to leach out after it has cooled. Best bet is to lay it on some white paper overnight. Oil may come out if you add a lot of softener however the color should not.
