Glaze or paint on sculpey

Postby tshpank@hotmail.com » Fri Feb 24, 2017 2:59 pm

I was wondering if applying a gloss glaze or paint to a suclpey clay model would improve the mold at all. So far all my molds come out OK with good detail, but have a very dull finish on the cast worm/wiggley. Does glaze or a high gloss paint make any difference or is dipping in clear plastisol or adding heat the only way to improve the final finish?
Thanks to all

Both will work however ... glaze will probably take away more of your detail as it is thicker. A high gloss acrylic paint would probably be my suggestion just because it would be easier to apply, faster drying, and should be able to apply it thinner.

If a little extra thickness is not an issue, I've been using AlumiUv and/or amazing clear cast over my skulpy masters with good results in terms of slick finish on soft plastic. I use it to fill tiny voids etc, that might occur after first coat or that I missed in the skulpy. I then might add a dab or two here and there as needed, then I finish off the bumps with super fine paper and spit.
good luck!

Another question - is thinner the best way to clean a brush after using either of them?

I use alcohol on brushed I used with two part, and just squeeze out the uv brush and store it in a folded up piece of aluminum foil.
