Questions about Making Your Own Lures

Molding a Heacklock

Postby FishermanTom81 » Fri Jul 01, 2016 5:48 pm

I am sorry if this is a double post. I did not see my last questions get posted. I am looking to make my own Headlocks. What is the best way to attach a hook? Should I mold in screw eyes, drill a hole, add epoxy then screw the eye in or just do through wire? Lastly when I use microbaloons to make the bait the specific gravity of cedar will that weaken the bait too much for a large muskie lure?

Thanks,
Tom

The strongest way is always with a wire harness molded in, but good screw eyes should be plenty strong. You can drill holes and attach them after demolding the lure. The amount of balloons you will need to get the buoyancy you are looking for should not negatively affect the strength.
good luck!
