Making whigs

Well I'm going to attempt to mold some whiggleys and I have 2 questions.
1. What size of brass wire do you use for the line tie ?
2. How much softener do you normally use with the alumisol? ( I seen in one of the videos you used about 10% I think but I wasn't sure if you found a better ratio)

I use .045 wire and add appx 10 to 15 percent softener. You get a more durable version if you pour the head with no softener.
good luck!

I did have one more question now that you mentioned pouring the head with the harder alumisol. When you pour in sections, i.e. head first, tail first, or belly first so you can add weight, how long do you usually wait before pouring the rest? Wait until it is set up or firm, or just until it wont move, or pretty much right away?

til it won't move, then make sure the next bunch you pour is plenty hot, I like to swish it back and forth a little after it's half full of really hot alumisol, then pour the rest. seems to make a better bond.
good luck,
L

Well here is my first attempt, I couldn't quite get the tail section filled. maybe you have a suggestion on how I can get the tail section filled all the way? I poured them with about 20% softener, they seem super flexible. Now I just need some open water to test them! I am also working on making a couple of paddle tail swimbaits, I think hobby lobby and makelure.com are my two favorite places to shop now ha. Thanks for all the help Larry, Mike, and everyone else on the forum.

I tired the Whigs out today, I made some with 20% 15% 10% and no softener. I can get all of them to track straight but the only ones that will wiggle are the 20 % ones and that's if I really burn them. Should I add more softener maybe to like 30% ? The dimensions of them are 7.5" long by 1" tall by about 1/2" thick at the head tapering down to about 1/16" at the tail, with 3 to 7 grams of bbs in the bottom of the head belly area. Help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
I tried taking a coupled of videos

I would stick with what you have and test it on the fish. The stiffer version that takes quite a bit of speed to whiggle should be very effective cranked and twitched like a jerk bait with several burns of different lengths mixed in.
YOu may have to make the back third or half a little thinner, either top to bottom or side to side.
