Questions about Making Your Own Lures

Prototype material

Postby SportsFishing WA » Sun Mar 08, 2015 9:30 pm

Hey guys, what material would you consider for sculpting a prototype to be later used to make a mould.
Also any other ideas that might help me get a symmetrical shape whilst I carve the lure would be very appreciated.. Thatkyou

I often use a mixture of super plastic loaded with lots of microballoons. It carves, sands and shapes easily, but any fairly soft wood will do. Basswood is a favorite among decoy makers.
Most guys I know use calipers, slip gauges, rulers, pre drilled depth holes and other simple homemade devices to keep things symmetrical.
