Alumifoam density question

Postby sigh16 » Mon Apr 14, 2014 7:11 am

I'm trying to replicate a great saltwater plug called an "Atom Jr". Also a plug by Gaines called "Super Maverick". Both are molded with a hard, dense foam. I have tried 610 foam and that is much too lightweight so I tried Aumilite's densest Alumifoam and while it came closer to matching it's still too light in weight and not castable from the surf. Is there anything I can do to increase the density of Alumifoam to match these lures or is there something else I can add/use? I really don't want to resort to adding weight to the lures. I'm just an amateur builder. Thanks.

i'd say you have a couple of choices, one would be to try super plastic with a heavy mix of microballoons and the other would be to mold some weight into the alumifoam. lots will depend on how the originals were balanced.
good luck!
