Questions about Making Your Own Lures

Making Lure Lips

Postby gavitron » Mon Feb 17, 2014 11:59 am

I am completely new to lure making. I am puzzled about how to replicate some of the lips of my favorite lures. I am confident that a majority of the lures action is due to the unique lure lip shapes. I thought that I could use the alumilite clear to pour an entire cast of the lure but I need microballoons for flotation and suspension which turns the casting white. Is there any way I can create my own lure lips that are original to the designs and keep them clear for clean lure lines?

hi gav,
some lures have the lip as part of the casting, others use a separate lip made of tough clear plastic and mold it into the lure. the latter is best for deep divers that require a large thin lip. lures like redfins, long A, etc can be made with resin lips. if you want the lip to be clear, just pour it clear, then the rest from either foam or resin with beads.
good luck, check out makelure.com for tips.
best
