Questions about Making Your Own Lures

Foam type

Postby Toyota13532 » Fri Mar 22, 2013 7:00 pm

After watching Larry make and use those popper style lures in South America I see a lot of uses for that product in some
Of my lure ideas, a few question I have are, which foam it better for a floating style jerk bait, does the aluminsol adhere
well to the foam, is the foam strong enough to hold embedded hook loops, and last is it possible to use the dyes or dust to change the foam color when mixing

suggest alumifoam to start. it can be dyed with alumilite dyes. You can also dust the mold.
If the alumifoam is a little too dense you can make it lighter by adding a couple drops of water to the A side and mix it in well before you add the B side. You can also mix alumifoam with 610 or 320 foam to get a less dense result.
Plastisol will adhere, but not well. If the foam had holes of cavities the plastisol would adhere better,
alumifoam at it's 2X expansion is very strong and would hold an embedded loop if it were large enough.
good luck
