First Attempt at Wiggly

Postby RhettWheeler » Tue Feb 26, 2013 9:58 am

Giving wiggly my first attempt. The lure making dvd enclosed in the hard and soft bait kits is so easy to follow. Thanks for coming out with a great product. I'm going to have so much fun with this stuff!

Thanks Larry. I'll post a photo to make lure . com of my first attempt if it turns out well. I'm also looking forward to trying out the glide baits and I think those spinner bait blades are awesome> I have a lot of ideas with those.

First attempt had air pockets
made more vent holes
2nd attempt had air pockets
made vent holes bigger
3rd attempt came out splendid

This is friggin' awesome. I'm working on my smaller "wiggly" form now that I detailed and patterned after a sardine. Can't wait to try these bad boys out. So i used the matallic powder to get the silver color I wanted in the plastic before I poured. Came out great. First half went a lot lighter on the metallic powder, then the top half I went heavier on it...

Next I'm going to paint it with the alumidust to match a river herring so my brother can smack some stripers with the wiggle monster in Cape Cod. Thanks so much for all the tips and videos and everything man. Couldn't do it with out your tutorials

Which brings me to my next point:
are you for hire for private tutoring in lure making? I have a lot of designs I'd like to execute, just need good guidance in what to do. I could make it work in my schedule at any time that would be convenient for you. I know you're schedule has to be beyond chaotic. I could easily make the trip out by your to hire you for a few hours on lure making. I'm thinking $200/hr?

I just ordered a kit. What size (how long) was you Mr. Wiggly lure. I need to know more about the vent holes. How did your coloring come out?

I made my wiggly extra extra large because I'll be going for monster muskies, stripers, and whatever else will attack it.

it was 11.5"

Coloring came out good! I suspended my wiggly (like in the video) filled the mold box halfway, let it cure, then finished it the next day. I made a vent hole at the head, about every 2-3 inches and then one at the tip of the tail. I poured alumisol with a slight silver metallic flake tint, then closed the mold and made the top half a much more intense silver color. Finished by pouring into the tail vent hole. It may take you a few attempts to get it right, but just stick to it and you'll figure it out just takes a little patience. But once you get your first mold right you shouldn't have issues on any of the other ones.

Any advice for using the tungsten powder in the heads of the lures? How much is too much? I wan it to have a slow to medium sink nose down.

LOL, that is a question I am tempted to tackle, but it would require a plastic volume of your lure, the weight of your lure when rigged, then ......... OK, even an Engineer knows that the best way is sometimes to just experiment. :P

Hey R
Nice work! Try 7-14 grams just behind the hook point insertion spot, or simply use a larger or heavier hook.
You don't have to put weight in the head to make it sink head down. I has to be located any where ahead of the balance point.
good luck,

Awesome thanks for the tips guys. I suppose the salinity will play a factor in buoyancy. I'll have to play around with the weight. to get the action just right I suspect.

They are rigged with treble hooks. The line runs through the eye, but does not connect to it. The line ties to the hook and one of the points of the hook is embedded into the bait in the bottom.
