Rigging Mr. Whiggley

Postby Cmur0100 » Fri Jan 18, 2013 10:50 am

Ok I'm ready to jump into my first soft plastic lure making project - a Mr. Whiggley. I have become fascinated with the action and versatility of the Whiggley after watching Larry fish it on several of his shows. I have researched the techniques to make it and ready to invest in the materials but there is one final thing that I can't seem to find out...how the heck to rig the thing when fishing!

If I use my standard soft minnow type lure rig, which is a long shank hook through the head and out the mid body or a weightless texas rig set up, I think it will kill the action of the Whiggley or at the very least place the hook to far forward for consistent hook up. Can someone explain the best way to rig it or possibly post a pic?

Thanks,
Chris

I place the hook just under the head and don't have very many short hits. I make a ring in the nose, run the line thru, tie on a treble and pin it under the head with one barb of the treble.

Larry,

i run braid then a section of 100lb floro, in this scenario how would you run wiggly? im thinking a swivel on the end of the braid and then a ring with the floro 18 inches or so through the nose ring and into the treble and just have it be a permanent wiggly rig, am i crazy or would this work or how do you do it? thanks
