Skirt material

Postby andrew.robinson1 » Thu Sep 27, 2012 7:00 pm

Hi, I am wanting to make a small skirt for 1/8th oz jig heads to add flair to gulp shrimp for flounder fishing.I am thinking about something like a snook jig but shorter. I'm not sure what material would be best. Any tips?

I suspect that fine flashabou would work very well for your use. I use it on small trout flies and perch jigs, smaller then what you are talking about, so....... check it out.
I think my bucket list has a hole in the bottom!

Hi Andrew
Here's what I'd try:
Using a needle, thread flashabou through the sides of the shrimp, and trim to the desired length. Flashabou is available in various widths, I'd say either 1/128", or standard 1/64,inch would be the best size. I use a latch needle. They used to sell a kit at Hedron called Flashabou Legs which was designed exactly for that purpose. It came with the needle and a variety of different Flashabou colors.
I think you are totally on the right track and will be quite pleased with the results. A few strands of it can make a BIG difference sometimes.
best,
