Foam and Hooks

Postby luccio » Tue Sep 04, 2012 9:33 am

Hi,Larry and Mike.
I was watching the video of how to make whopper plopper and musky frog.
What kind of foam was used to fill the whopper plopper and what kind of hooks (size and model) were used to arm the musky frog?

Until Mike and Larry answer what was specifically used, Alumilite has their 610 foam and their 320 super foam.

My test show that a fully cured 610 foam is much lighter but as strong as balsa wood, but the 320 is quite soft. Still, the 320 is so very light it has its place.

I use the 610 foam most of the time myself, but ............................

yes, 610 foam. As far as the hook and the musky frog, I recall using an owner jig hook which I heated and reshaped.

Thank you,Larry !!!

Here in italy I have found a foam with a density of 60 kg/m3 and another one of 90kg/m3.
I was thinking to use the 90kg/m3,what do you think about?

The 610 foam test out at .24 g/cc. I guess this means you can do the math to get close to what Alumilite makes. There is a link to lures where I submitted a density chart comparing woods, foams, and Alumilite White. Check it out below.

http://www.makelure.com/Lures.cfm

Keep in mind that while the density may be close, we have know idea how strong it is, how well it sticks, etc., etc.

aka anglinarcher,

the foam 610 has a density of 6lb which is equivalent to a density of 96.12 kg/m3.
Then I will use the foam with a density of 90kg/m3 that as density is similar to the foam 610.

Close enough. The graph I did was to show that there is a difference in density if the foam was allowed to expand unrestrained verses constrained, but, close enough for sure.

the graph that you put and the technical data of the product I found at Alumilite have been very useful for me.

Thank you Aka!
