Feathered Trebles

Postby mschenk » Sat Jun 16, 2012 7:11 am

Hey Larry,

What is your take on feathered treble hooks on lipped musky lures/crankbaits? I'm assuming they wouldn't negatively impact the action like on gliders... Lots of soft plastic tails appearing on lures these days for additional action, seems bucktail and feathers would add more action, plus breathe on the pause, with less weight. I just don't see many musky lures with dressed tail hooks... maybe all the more reason to add them to my lures!

Thanks.

As long as they don't mess up the lure, why not? The stiff spines on some hackle feathers can make a lure run askew if not oriented properly. I often use flashabou on the rear to add illusion of size and of course a little more flash. sometimes i put it on the treble, sometimes on it's own ring or pin. On some species at certain times I've noticed what seems to be a preference in tail color, which is interesting.
good luck!
