Making a bama Rig 2 piece Mold

Postby Bobby c » Wed May 09, 2012 9:13 pm

Ok I want to make a Alabama Rig...from an RTV mold. I watched the guy doing it on the tutorial. How did he make it where the line eye wasn't covered by the resin when he poured it. Also He is pouring into a RTV mold he made him self...How did he keep the mold hole hollow up past where the mold is poured. I would like to make a 2 piece mold and pour into a spru hole...any body got a tutorial on making this

Also I cant find any Alumilite at the Hobby Lobby in the Charlotte NC Area

As someone who's made a couple dozen Bama rigs myself, my advice is forget about the two piece mold.... for a Bama rig there's really no reason to go to the trouble.

Take an old lure with a head shape you like, even a spinnerbait will work, or make a head shape out of Sculpey and bake it. Next, make a one piece mold using Quick Set RTV and you're all set. As far as the line tie goes, if you use an old lure, the mold will form around the line tie and you're good...... otherwise, if you bake a Sculpey piece you can either make a line tie into the piece before baking, or just take an Exacto knife and make a small slit in the bottom of the mold after its cured.

I used an old suspending minnow lure from my "dead lure box" (Thanks, Larry) and it works great...... I've caught some very nice bass using mine.
