How to predict Specific Gravity

Postby johndtuttle » Wed May 02, 2012 1:30 pm

Are there any formulas or spreadsheets available to know in advance what proportion of micro balloons are needed to produce a particular specific gravity?

The reason I ask is that my prototype has been produced in wood (such info is available on all the specific gravities of each wood species) and I hope to reduce my "trial and error" in reproducing the same action in Alumalite.

Thanks for all replies.

Yes, there is, to a point.

I have posted a picture in the makelures.com site that shows the % microballons for Alumilite White. It is the second one found on http://www.makelure.com/Lures.cfm.

I also posted the formula at viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11525.

As indicated in the write-up, you need to figure in the weight of your hooks, your hardware, etc., but you would also need to do that with a wood lure.

You can also use Alumilite White on the bottom and top of the mold with Foam 610 to get a final specific density you need as well.

Good Luck.
I think my bucket list has a hole in the bottom!
