RTV and Metalic Flakes

Postby Wahoo61 » Thu Feb 23, 2012 2:40 pm

Larry, which mold material is best for smaller soft plastics up to 6 inches? I used the High Strength 2 on my last mold. However, it is very rigid and some of your molds look like they are more flexible.

Metallic flakes. I don't find them on the MakeLure website. What kind do you use and where do you get them. (for soft plastic baits). As always, THANKS!!!!

We're not putting them on the site because they are so easy to obtain elsewhere!

I find the HS2 perfect myself, but they do make a HS3 that is even more flexable. I have not tried it myself, but .....

The High Strength 3 is more flexible than the High Strength 2 but still has a very high tear strength. It is the first choice for making molds that have drastic undercuts or negative drafts.

I've found glitters and flake at craft stores like Hobby Lobby. You can also find them in the craft section of big box stores.

Mike, I have that kind of glitter but won't it melt in the heated soft plastic?

Some do, most don't. The metal flakes usually are best.

The worst I've seen is that some will curl the flakes and they won't stay flat. I've never seen them completely melt though.
