I just got done pulling out my first cast using the alumidust, and I say it is as good as advertised! I used it with white super plastic and some black dye. I brushed the orange color alumidust on the top half of the head of my bait. ( I like orange on the head of the bait because I can see it the best in the water). The other cool thing was there was no residual dust in my mold after I pulled it out!

My question is:
Suggestions on getting the dust effect on the bottom of my flat bottom mold?

Do you mean the open part on an open face mold?

Correct. I'm talking about the open part of my one piece mold.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I have not had the time to check something out.

First, is this a mold you can re-design? If you use fully enclosed two piece mold it will take care of the issue.

What I was going to try was to take a piece of smooth plastic, like what they make overhead projections out of or even stencils, and cut a piece large enough to cover all of your mold. Dust the plastic as desired. When you pour your plastisol, be ready to put the dusted plastic on it before it sets up, press down until the plastisol cools to set. This should work.

Give it a try and let us know how it works for you.

Just dust it with a super soft brush after you pull it from the mold, then dip it in your clear coat!

You can also powder the top of the resin right after pouring the resin in the mold. You don't need a lot, just dust cover it. It may not be perfect but does cover. The best bet is to dust and clear coat as Larry mentioned. It also adds the gloss and depth to it.

Thanks for the replies. I will be having some 'arts and crafts" this weekend and will give the brushing a whirl.

The clear coat is simply clear alumisol with about 20% softener added.
