Mold making question??

Postby Seachaser » Mon Jan 02, 2012 10:19 am

How do you guys keep your lure blank from shifting when you pour your mold? Mine cants at an angle when I start pouring. I try to keep it horizontal and perpendicular, but both angles change.

In the case of pouring a head, like for a marlin trolling lure, I hot glue the flat part on the back to the base of my mold.
With other molds I might use a "pedestal" glued to the base and to a small hole drilled in the master. The pedestal then can also serve as my pour hole.
At other times I might suspend the master by wires or pins inside the mold box. It all depends on the shape of the object or type of mold.

How thin can you pour lure making material and still have rigidity.

Super plastic is rigid in a paper thin layer, but if unsupported and very thin would be easily broken.
