Hi,Larry and/or Mike.

I have seen your new video about coloring lures using alumindust and a heat gun: what temperature did have the heat gun ?

Thank you in advance.

THe temp setting was 1400 on low fan.
To get a scale pattern try this
first heat with the gun until tacky. Then lay a piece of mesh over it and stick it down by rolling a dowel or paint brush handle over it.
Then dust and peel off the mesh.
Heat with gun until surface goes from satin to a shiny sheen.
You can also dust it first , soften with heat, then lay the mesh on it. Wait a few moments, then peel off the mesh and a scale pattern will remain.
best

Thanks! How does this work with hard baits. Very intrested in making a scale pattern on hard baits without painting.

Personally, I have not tried it yet on hard baits. You may have  !

Alumilite White gets pretty loose at 140 degrees, so take care if you do try it. Let us know how it works for you.

It won't work with hard baits ... basically the concept behind this method with soft baits is you are remelting just the outer skin to fuse the Alumidust into it. Then, when it cools, it will be completely migrated into the surface and will not rub off. The cured hard plastic will burn or scorch it you do this with a torch or simply soften with a heat gun after awhile. It won't melt enough to fuse or accept the dust.

Do not burn the cured hard plastic. Burning urethanes gives off hazardous fumes you do not want to breathe. Same goes for the soft plastic (Alumisol), heating it is finding but do not burn/scorch it.
