On an older show - you were fishing for bonefish on the flats.
You were using a fly that was tied differently than the traditional flies for bonefish. It stood up much better on the sand. Can you provide the instructions for tying this type of fly?

Hi A
you're referring to a fly called a bone crusher. It's not at all hard to tie, but the instructions without illustration might get confusing. I'll try!
The idea of the fly is to create a vertical profile. To accomplish this I bent the hook, like a jig hook, but not quite 90 degrees.
Then tied on lead dumbbell eyes just ahead of the bend in such a way they would allow the hook to stand up like a roller jig.
I then dub a body and tie "upright wings" out of sheep wool and a few strands of silicone legs, in a similar fashion as a parachute type dry fly like you'd use for gulping trout on Quake Lake!
good luck,
L
