you're referring to a fly called a bone crusher. It's not at all hard to tie, but the instructions without illustration might get confusing. I'll try!
The idea of the fly is to create a vertical profile. To accomplish this I bent the hook, like a jig hook, but not quite 90 degrees.
Then tied on lead dumbbell eyes just ahead of the bend in such a way they would allow the hook to stand up like a roller jig.
I then dub a body and tie "upright wings" out of sheep wool and a few strands of silicone legs, in a similar fashion as a parachute type dry fly like you'd use for gulping trout on Quake Lake!
