circle hook question

Hi Larry,

I often modify my plugs and other lures by adding weight, changing out hooks, etc. Have you ever used circle hooks with artificials? I know yo-zuri sells some of their sashimi minnow-style hardbaits with circle hooks to market to a catch and release audience. I was changing out some trebles on some Mirrolures when I got to thinking whether circle hooks would be compatible with them if I was targeting snook and gator seatrout for release back home in Tampa Bay. Right now I only use circles for live or cut bait fishing. I worry though, that imparting action to a baitfish-imitating hardbait won't allow enough time for a circle hook to find purchase in the jaw of a fish. Any thoughts?

Best,

Ian

I'd personally not had good success with them on lures except for tarpon on coon pop rigs. If they bite, hang on and turn away before they open their mouths and the hook is big enough to hook the fish but not so big it messes up the lure....
