Looking for inshore topwater fly

Postby Questor » Mon Mar 07, 2011 1:19 pm

Hello:

Can you recommend a good topwater fly for inshore saltwater? I'll be fishing the Gulf for sea trout, redfish, ladyfish, and critters that swim in the same areas, near turtle grass flats and oyster bars and spartina grass.

Durability is a good attribute.

I'm fishing a 7wt rod with an 8wt saltwater taper line.

Thanks!

Poppers, divers and sliders with size 1 up to size 1/0 hooks. I don't suggest poppers with long shanked hooks because they cast so poorly.

In the keys this winter I had good luck with three to five inch Dahlberg divers with rabbit and pine sinker tails, at night they where deadly, even the barracuda loved them, the jacks would come right out of the water after them, I added epoxy to the heads for durability.
