Fishing rec'ds for Bocas Panama?

Postby a_cirig » Sat Mar 05, 2011 8:55 pm

Larry/Friends,
I am planning a trip to Panama in April and will be spending some time in the Bocas del Toro region/islands on the caribbean side. I have seen a few articles recently on good Tarpon fishing in this area and wanted to know if you could rec'd any contacts for guided fishing? We already have arranged lodging so I am looking for a guide who does daily charters vs. the fishing lodges which require booking lodging with them to use their guides. Appreciate any rec'ds!

Hi A
I don't know if there are any guides right exactly there. You can likely find a local with a panga either there or in Manzanillo, CR.
I fished the area many years back and the sleeper spot was the Chunginola (sp?) river which very close to the border of CR and Panama. TO enter the river safely you need to find the canal around the corner a bit south of the mouth. You should see some made made sticks indicating where it is.
best,
L
