Marlin resin heads

Postby Captain Ron 23 » Wed Nov 25, 2009 5:17 pm

Hi Larry, I have been making Marlin resin heads for years and would you believe, I've have not figured out or found a person willing to tell me how to get that crystal clear or polished look on the resin head.v How do the commercial resin head mgf. get those high gloss marlin resin head lures? What is the best rtv to make the molds for these resin heads?

Thank you,
Ron

you can cast heads using Crystal Clear urethane for the head and make a one piece mold out of HS2, and if there are undercuts or radical angles, use HS3 RTV so it's easier to remove the part. You can also dye it any color light and semi transparent or dark and opaque.
super glue the eye balls directly to the center tube or with an axle made of shrink tubing for separation of the eyes if needed.
To get the most bubble free heads helps to buy or make a "pressure pot" to crush the bubbles in the casting.
It takes about 60 pounds of pressure.
Hope you catch a big one!
best,
L
