striped bass has me stumped

Postby salmonneed help » Mon Jun 22, 2009 10:18 pm

i have always caught stripers in the sf bay, on live bait. however, i have been looking into other methods, poppers, swimmers, and so on. water color clarity doesn't happen often, and wind is a problem casting anything under 6 oz. i was wondering if anyone knows of a lure/popper that is very castable ( on a medium heavy 12 surf rod ( a budget rod) and will still be efficient in murky brown water, while trying to throw it as far as possible across 25 mph wind. any suggestions would be much appreciated.

thanks, Nick.

Stan Gibbs poppers use them all the time for the bay area.

Nick,
I am an East Coast striper guy who fishes both boat and the surf. We love out custom plugs so I have included some of the better ones and more popular. Please keep in mind that spooks and pencil poppers along with regular popper and swimmers are what we use the most. Hope this helps and good luck.

Also if you have sand Lances AKA lanes ells I would highly recommend you get some T Hex metals to keep in your surf bag.
