GT's

Postby youngkid » Wed Jun 17, 2009 11:08 pm

im going to hawaii to see the rest of my family and cousins and such for summer. last year i asked the locals what they were whipping with for the gt's and they said poppers. i figure, what ever they are using to catch these fish have to make some sort of commotion on top of the water. so anyone out there willing to reply, do you think that using prop baits for gt's will work for whipping? and anyone interested, what colors are these fish most attracted to?

Hi YK
Gt's will hit anything they see moving, prop baits included. Problem with prop baits is vulnerability of shaft where props are.
Poppers, both floater and those that sink until you crank them fast, or "skating" type plugs as used in the surf are great. You want to pick stuff you can cast a mile with some degree of accuracy that is strong, runs true on fast retrieves, and kicks up a fuss on the surface.
good luck,
