monster shark surf fishing

Postby sharkhunter » Fri Jun 12, 2009 10:26 am

I am going for a 1000 plus pound shark on the surf. I own a jeep wrangler that I intend on driving on the beach (3rs rd, delaware) to set up for the catch. I have mounted rod holders on the front, a fighting chair on top, and a cargo carrier for the reciever hitch that has a mount for my meat grinder to make chum. I am using a penn international 50w with 50# line along with a 14/0 hook on 15' of 450# steel cable with a ball bearing swivel attached to the end and a 10 OZ pyramid weight to keep the rig anchored. I also have a kayak for transporting the rigged bait into the ocean . What are some good tips so that I wont be out there waisting time and money doing the wrong thing?

HI S
I like your plan, but if you're serious about the grander I think you're going to need a bigger rig. I wouldn't go with any line lighter than 80# (130# is better) and you're going to need more capacity as well. I'd trick the drag up to at least 60 pounds and make sure you've got good traction for pulling!
good luck
