Fishing in the Keys!

Postby Jeremy Damgaard » Wed Apr 08, 2009 9:31 am

Hey Larry and anyone who can help,
I will be in the Keys (Islamorada) from June 20th to the 27th. Can you recommend what I should fish for during that time? I'm thinking flats: tarpon, snook, maybe permit. Any recommendations for a guide? It looks like going out of Bud N' Mary's is the way to go. Any advice is appreciated!

Larry,
Have you ever had the opportunity to fish for bumphead parrotfish or Napoleon wrasse? Cool critters!!

Thanks!
J

I fished out of Bud n Marys around the same time you are going 2 years ago. We caught a lot of schoolie dolphin, one wahoo, and had a marlin come up into the spread. There are so many options when fishing out of Islamorada so I would suggest that pick a target species that you want to go after.

Good Luck,

Hi J
I'd spend most of my time on tarpon, maybe some night snooking, and more tarpon....
Maybe take time to a catch a snapper for dinner!
I've messed with the parrotfish, but not wrasse.
I'm sure the guides at B&M's will take good care of you.
best
