what is the best setup for surf fishing for sharks

i have always wanted to go surf fishing for sharks but did not know what is the best setup for doing it. i have been looking for a rod and reel but dont want to make the wrong choice could you please help me.

Where are you fishing and what are you targeting I grew up in freeport so I know the area pretty well and have caught some big ones over 10ft. If you go to Fishing Tackle Unlimited they will set you up right first of all how good can you cast a big conventional reel if not you need a kayak for taking your baits out we use 6/0 and bigger reels and 8' plus rods and big baits cause we don't like small sharks. We don't use braid line for sharks cause you need the stretch of monofilament 80# is the way to go I will keep an eye on this post to help you out were I can

i'm planning to go fishing in galveston and rock port. i can cast a big spinning reel pretty far and i have a seven foot rod so im used to the big poles.

bait runner 6500 and a good 8' rod not a cheapy 65 power pro if you are using a spinner just don't over tighten your drag because braid doesn't stretch and you should be fine
