sw FL inshore lures

Postby hizzoner » Fri Feb 27, 2009 8:41 pm

Any ideas out there on " must haves" for spring break?..had luck with red jigs/brown rubber shrimp as well as chartreuse..

Do topwater musky lures work for reds and trout?

Thanks

First I have to ask where in SW FL are you going to be fishing?
If general I would say 1/8 to 14/oz jig heads with 3" to 4" bodies
with natural colors. Match the hatch. Right now a lot of fish are
feeding on glass minnows and crustasean(sp). I use 2.5" to 3"
clear with flake or rootbeer colors. For hardbaits topwater
walking baits like Mirrorlure Top Dogs. I use Mister Twister
Sassy Shads. RT Slugs, Mites, and Fantail Shrimp. That
covers most of whats around. I fish primarily the Tampa Bay
area.

I'd scale down from muskie tackle if I were you. Sebile and Yo-zuri minnow baits are working good right now in rivers and brackish areas. The flats arent full of fish with the cold weather, maybe by spring break...when is spring break?
