Curado 300

Postby Van Staal Man » Wed Feb 18, 2009 6:15 pm

Hi Larry,

Thanks so much for your feedback on the Curado 300. I have one more question about the reel for you and that is do you think the Curado 300 has enough power to fight a 30 to 40 lb fish without burning the gears out. Sorry if this seems like a stupid question to you.

About the invite to fish for stripers from the surf with me I totally understand what your saying as far as nailing down some sponsors for 2010 first and I think that is very wise of you. On the same note I want you to know that it is a sincere and serious offer and I could tell you in more detail about a potential trip over email or a private message if you would like.

best,
JS

I personally have used my Curado 300's to catch Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado, Yellowtail and White Sea Bass here in CA. My friends and I have caught hundreds of these fish over the past years in excess of 50 pounds. I'm pretty sure you will have no problem catching bigger stripers. The gear set is actually larger than those of the Trinidad 14, which is a reel designed for offshore fishing.

Thanks for your feedback. I am new to using casting gear and just wanted to do my research before I make a purchase that big.

Just another "dumb" question, I have a Curado and love it. I have even caught some stripers into the 30's on it. My question is regarding muskie use. I notice Larry looks like he uses a Calcutta and I read that alot of other guides are going to the Trinidad 16. Is there a reason behind this?

Hi G
Not a dumb question at all, and I'm glad you asked it.
The whole reason for the Trinidad is for the top end speed you can get cranking it; especially with a large, sometimes highly water resistant lure. For most situations the Curado 300 is a better choice and is invariably more comfortable, less fatiguing and also less likely to give you "fishermans" elbow!
