Well, the trip is over...what a blast! The fishing for heroes charter didn't pan out much, tough fishing JUST after a bad cold front that pushed all the trouts and redfish out deep. BUT, we got to see plenty of dolphins, had a cool time on the water, and I managed to get one trout in the boat. We also booked a flounder gigging trip which was incredible. We not only got a limit of flounder in just a couple of hours, but Phillip got to see all kinds of birds, jellyfish, trout, redfish, drum, sheepshead, and a gator that got a little bit ornery with us. (Mommy didn't get to see that video.) We also went out to the end of a jetty one day for sheepshead, and once we figured out how to get a hook in their mouth, we tore them up pretty hard. As many of you know, those things pull like a freight train, and are quite tasty fried or baked. The bottom line is, we all had a great time, and little Phillip got to play around with tons of fish that he's never seen before (and some that I haven't either). And one of my fellow Soldiers, David, had fun on his first ever fishing trip. Another one converted. Thanks to everyone for all the tips/advice, and if anyone has any plans to go to Rockport/Aransas, Texas to do some fishing, I have the phone numbers for a real good gigging guide, and a real good trout/redfish guide (even though he put us on to sheepshead instead).
