Questions about Saltwater Fishing

Southern Belize

Postby Landlocked » Sat Jan 10, 2009 2:34 pm

I'm looking into a couple of business opportunities down in Belize, near the Southern tip of Placencia. I'd love to spend as much time as possible fishing while I'm down there. A buddy, who is a capt in the Keys, was telling me that the restrictions on the fishing grounds around the Barrier Reef system in Belize makes the fishing difficult and less appealing. Have you or any forum members fished this area? Seems like it should have some of everything. I am more a fan of reef and blue water fishing rather than flats/fly fishing...although I'm willing to learn it and try it.

Upon some further digging around, I have become a bit more discouraged about the offshore prospects...From what I've read, the local fishermen, mainly from Honduras and Guatemala, have picked most of the offshore fishing grounds clean.
