Which Calcutta Rod for my Calcutta 400B?

Postby Amateur Angler » Sun Aug 10, 2008 4:29 pm

Hi Larry,

Im in Fort Lauderdale and fish the piers and bridges alot. Im targeting bigger snook as the season opens on Sept. 1st. I got a Calcutta 400B and want to buy a matching Calcutta Rod. I am looking at two rods. They are 8'0" 12-25 MH and an 8'0" 15-30 Heavy Action rod. I will be using live bait a lot of the time but want some castability for big jigs too. I know you use the MH vs the Heavy a lot of the time. Which blank should I get for my use and what line would you recommend for turning the pigs from the pilings?

hi josh,
I'd go with a minimum of 65# braid and one of the heavy to med heavy musky sticks.
Sounds like you're in for some fun!!!
best,
L
