what rod for the torium 14

Postby Anders » Wed Jun 04, 2008 1:31 pm

Hey Larry,

I'm getting two torium 14's to fish inshore for anything from flounder to cobia. i fish mostly from a boat and usually use 5 to 6 ft rods, mainly the trevala with the torium 20's. For these two reels (14s) I was thinking something a little longer so i could cast a little better from the boat. What would you put the reels on? The medium light 7 ft trevala? would it handle a 80 pound cobia? or is that a dumb question?

Thanks

Anders

hi a
Any of the Trevala rods will easily handle an 80 lb cobia. Which might work best for you depends on what you'll be tossing at them. As you know, the Trevala series was never intended for casting (or lots of other stuff we're all using them for) and the heavier action models will likely cast better than the lighter ones, although they might be a little short.
You might check out the Teramar medium heavy actions available in 7 and 7 1/2 feet.
best,
L

the only tallus i could find that was 7ft 6in was the tallus kingfish conventional but it was rated at 17-30. I looked at the shimano website and there was like 15 kinds of tallus rods. Thanks for the info, maybe can you be a little more specific?

Thanks,
Anders
