What do you consider "enough" line capacity

Hi Larry, from your experience what do you consider to be enough line for Land based Fishing (jetties, rocks, surf) for fighting fish like GTs ,tarpon etc. Obviously yu cant follow the fish as if yu were in a boat . Would yu think 300yards would be enough generally? I know there might me some fish that yu just cant stop. Do yu think its more important to have a smaller test line which more could fit on the spool or a big test which you could use high drag settings to stop those fighters. What works better for yu? :(

Usually 300 is enough. It used to be a real tough compromise, but now with braids we can have both strength and capacity.
Depending on the species, if I really want to tip the odds in my favor I opt for heavy line, and not just a little heavier, and put on the big heat immediately.
Thanks for the good question.
best,
L
