Best spinner around $200

Postby rbfishing » Wed May 28, 2008 12:02 pm

HI Larry i know you are definitely a shimano guy but in your unbiased opinion what would be the best spinner in the $200 range. The stradic, fin-nor ahab or quantum cabo . My most important features are smooth strong drag and reliability around the salt water.

Hi RB
When I hooked up with Shimano it was because I felt they were the best reel I could get. I still think that's true! Go with the Stradic!

you could get the quantum catalyst for $139.99, they are awesome reels, I have the 40 and it will stand up to anything, caught a 42 in red fish out of sebastian inlet off of it and it held up just fine even when I had to horse him to get him out off the channel

Hi Guys,
My advice, if you want the checker flag, ride sea biscuit! One 42" in redfish, IMO, does not constitute a valid field test!
Might be a great reel, might not. Only time and lots of encounters will tell!
And, quite honestly, if you want to keep seeing new episodes of the Hunt for Big Fish you've got to support the sponsors who support me! Without Shimano I'd not be on the air this season. Plus, l would not use or endorse a product that I didn't feel was absolutely the best, in terms of pure performance and value!
best,
L

Hi,
new to the forum but love the show, been watching for a while.
I just bought a Saragosa 8000 and put it on a Teramar TMS-S70H and packed it with 50# braid and I am loving it! It is super smooth (has are all shimano reels) and it has a huge comfortable hanlde. If your looking for a smaller size they go all the way down to 3000 and are approved for saltwater use by shimano. Only caught a couple of reds and sheepshead on it so far but hopefully catching lots of dolphin and tuna with it soon. Check em out, I plan on buying another for sure.
